Ignoble End

Ignoble, defined by "Webster's New Compact Dictionary For School and Office," the 1985 revised edition, is an adj. summed up by two words: base;mean.

Base, defined by the before mentioned, included a word which gave further meaning to Ignoble. "Contemptable." Disapproval involving a feeling of one's own superiority.

Mean, defined by the same before mentioned, included the word "Shabby." "Run-Down" and "Inferior" were the two which caught my eye for this pathetic attempt to speak through words.

How is one living thing's "Life", it's "Animation", less important or "Inferior"/Base or Mean/"Shabby", or more "Run-Down" than another living thing's life? How is this difference measured? Is it Hate, Ego, or Ignorance which holds the ruler?

But, is it important to value life at all? How much value should be given to a life if we are to value life, even if it your own? Is this a subjective debate or one to be considered law some day?

I am a guest in an empty house. I begin to wash my cloths. While loading a wash I hear squeaks. The squeaks are similar to "cricks and cracks" when walking on wooden floors or stairs, but the squeaks are all to familiar to mice. I ponder by shifting my weight from one leg to another experimenting with the wooden floor idea. I become distracted by the washing of my cloths and think nothing of it for my first wash.

Upon return to finish my wash the squeaks begin to speak to my heart. Why my mind would want to imgine being the little baby mouse whose face and body are paralized to the sticky mouse trap, as if the sticky traps are more humane than those wooden instant death spring traps, I may never completly know.

How terrible those seconds, each damn second for hours upon hours, that baby mouse tortures itself with the puzzle it has so innocently gotten into. And for what? Being alive?

Now I understand that we cannot teach the mouse to stay out of our homes. But I do understand that life will go where it may. If we cannot begin to understand our responsibility to the life outside of our own, then we are mentally/emotionally chipping away, eating away, nibble by tiny nibble, our own opportunities to be free in our hearts as well as our minds.

However still, even I, with this absolutly ridiculous writing, will continuely struggle with the appreciation of my own life and as a concequence all life outside of mine.
